Originally from Egypt, artist and photographer Christine Rivers grew up in LA with her traditional Eastern Orthodox family. During her twenties she lived the life of a California girl, working a variety of jobs and testing the traditions of her family by moving out of the home as an unmarried woman. In her early thirties she married the love of her life and was swept away to St. Petersburg, Russia where she settled into the quirky and difficult world of learning a third language and culture.
After the birth of her second son, the death of her mother-in-law, and the near death of her husband Christine and her family took off to travel the world for over a year. Living out of backpacks with a three year old and a one year old, Christine and her husband searched for what made life worth living: family, love and the time to bring the two together.
These photographs are a visual diary of the moments in time when it all came together.
