How We Select Our Artists:

La Familia Gallery works with emerging artists from a diverse cross section of cultures, countries, and experiences. Our artists come to us from the most populated and cultured to the most remote and primitive locations in the world. They are immigrants, ex-pats, and fish-out-of-water. They are chosen for their skill, perspective, professionalism, passion, personality, and dedication to their artistic careers.

Structured to be more than a gallery, La Familia works to ensure our artists are committed to internal, interpersonal, and community growth. This stems from our belief that the best works evolve from the critical thinking and emotional intersection that exists as a result of living a dynamic life.

Our artists are chosen for more than strong portfolios, they are chosen because they are strong people with strong personalities and strong beliefs. In order to ensure our artists meet these criteria, La Familia Gallery has developed a two-year interview process divided into three-steps.

Step One: The Preview Exhibition
Each new artist is required to first “meet the family” and present a sample of his or her work to the public. During this exhibition, we observe the artist’s creativity, commitment, communication style, organization of thought, and the community reaction. If we feel the artist has exceeded expectations, he or she is then offered a solo exhibition.

Step Two: The Solo Exhibition
During his or her Solo Exhibition, the gallery gives the presenting artist complete creative control to present his or her work in any manner he or she wishes. This allows us to fully assess an artist's level of professionalism, organization, commitment to process, and maturity as an artist. Upon completion of the solo exhibition, we review all aspects of the work, the presentation and artist's ability to effectively communicate his or her idea to the public. If we feel the artist has exceeded our expectations we propose making the relationship official.

Step Three: Life-Partners
La Familia Gallery offers its gallery artists a committed relationship in which we work together to develop a solid set of career goals. These goals are based on each individual artist's needs and expectations. La Familia Gallery provides guidance and a “creative think-tank” for our artists to discuss ideas, work out kinks, and explore theories.
